May. 12th, 2005 06:30 pmOnce upon a time, a long time ago, the dreamiest scholar ever said that Father Joseph Lafitau was the first practitioner of comparative religion. (Chidester 1996) And I said, dude, no way. Edward Burnett Tylor is the originator of that method, George Stocking told me so during my quals. (Stocking 198x) But Chidester is so dreamy I had to rethink what Dr. Stocking had said about victorian anthropology. And so a dissertation was born.
