I just got home from Shanghai Knights. There are a thousand reasons I didn't see this movie before tonight. Nearly all of those reasons have to do with my workaholic impulses combined with my fear of being disappointed by the film. I loved Shanghai Noon -- I thought it was the best of Jackie's U.S. movies so far (my faves for his Chinese movies are Gorgeous and Accidental Spy). But I am now beyond sorry I waited so late to see Shanghai Knights. It has humor, fantastic stunts, great interaction between Roy and Chon. As a sequel it was a great romp and lived up to the first movie. Anachronisms. Well, yes, there were about a million but it was a great story. Fun. Danger. Fireworks. And stunts, many wonderful stunts. It was so much fun to watch, I can't wait to go again. Roy and Chon are just endearing, their affection is so genuine and fresh. I am furiously re-reading all of sidewinder's shanghai noon fiction (which is wonderful!) and wishing there was just more of the Jackie love out there. He has terrific chemistry with Owen Wilson, they work well together. I hope there will be another Shanghai movie, since there's going to be a third Rush Hour.

Yippee, Jackie, yippee!

Okay, that's it, we're going to try to see it this weekend, in between Tonia being here, and me and Anna going DVD shopping.

Thanks so much for the update.

And, back at you, you've got to catch up on Buffy, so we can talk. The next couple of weeks are reruns, so you've got a chance to get caught up for once, okay?

Talk to you soon, sweetie,
S--

I totally didn't mention the Singing in the Rain homage. Jackie is so cute and he is very like a dancer in the way he moves and uses his body. You'll enjoy Shanghai Knights even if you love Jackie somewhat less than I do.

Yeah, I need to see last night's buffy and the remaining DZ eps I haven't seen yet so we can talk wildly about them. And I will because. Vacation! I think I'm going to see Chicago today (3:30). We'll see. It's such a beautiful day. Maybe some time in the sun...
Miss you!

YOu're so brave, voluntarily going to see a musical! I send you kisses and kisses.

Definitely spend some time in the sun; you need to stock up if you're coming up here. I want to be able to shut my eyes and see you relaxing, tanning, and maybe getting just a couple of freckles where you least expect them.

It seems weird writing each other letters in public, you know? On the other hand, anything that keeps us in touch is a very good thing.

'dore you,
S--

Thanks for the fic plug :-)

I really need to get my act together and write some more. I'm having some struggles wrapping my brain around certain things that happened in the sequel and how to reconcile it with my previous views of the characters. Not all the changes were in a bad way to my mind, just...different than how I wanted to see things, which may be why instead of going off in a flurry of writing activity I needed some time to think about how I wanted to proceed.

I probably had higher, more improbable expectations for the sequel than anyone out there; it was really kind of weird finally seeing it! But I did really adore certain aspects of it.

And yes, there needs to be more Jackie love. And fic involving Jackie's characters getting some lovin'. There *have* been quite a few new people joining Shanghai_Slash since the sequel came out, so one can only hope...
